Starquest (May 23-24)

Over the Memorial Day Weekend, Melany, Michelle, Olivia and Tina attended the Starquest competition in San Jose at the California Theatre where each studio had a separate dressing room with a bathroom (how nice!). Here are the results:

Spotlight Dance Cup (May 9-10)

Melany, Emily, Melanie G., Neta, Michelle, Emma S. and Alyssa danced this Mother’s Day weekend. Michelle, Emily, Melany, Emma and Tina H. participated in the Dance Down where they learn a short audition piece. Here are their results:

• Michelle: 8th Overall for the Junior Division; Sapphire award and 4th place in the Dance Down and has been invited to Spotlight’s Elite Performance Team to perform at the National Finals.
• Emily: 6th place overall in the Teen Division; Judge’s “A Cut Above” award for outstanding performance
• Melany: 8th place overall in the Teen Division
• Melanie G: Ruby; Judge’s “Absolutely Natural” award
• Alyssa: Diamond for “No Air”; 6th overall in the Senior Division; First in Category (lyrical); Judge’s “Outstanding Originality” for her special style.
• Neta: Ruby for “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know”
• Tina H: Diamond Award for the Senior Dance Down and an invitation to the Elite Performance team to perform at the National Finals

Jump 2009 (April 17-19)

Melany and Tina H. attended and competed at JUMP and had a successful and fun time. Here are their results:

• Competition: All for the Best (High Gold, 2nd overall in the Junior category); Pink Panther (Gold)
• Workshop: Melany received a Junior VIP Runner-Up award; Tina received a Teen VIP Runner-Up award
  • They both received a $250 scholarship to a future Break the Floor Production week-long event within one year of their award
  • A regional convention scholarship to be used at any one JUMP regional convention within one year.
  • They are eligible to compete for the National JUMP VIP at Jump’s Broadway Finale and would automatically perform a specially choreographed number in the closing show at the Broadway Finale
  • At the faculty show, VIP dancers performed a special number (which was rehearsed during lunch breaks as we as early in the morning on Sunday of the convention).
  • Tina also performed a contemporary piece with a group of dancers who were selected in the advanced contemporary master class.

Rainbow 2009 (February 13-14)

Although the weather outside was a bit dreary, there was plenty shining inside at the Rainbow dance competition at Chabot College in Hayward.

• Melanie G. (High Gold) and Tina W. (Gold) performed their solos for the first time.
• Michelle (High Gold) and is a Dancer of the Year finalist.
• Emily M. not only came away with a Platinum performance and 2nd Overall High Score for 12-14 year olds but she also stole the hearts of the judges and was awarded the “Classical Elegance” award.
• Alyssa, Emma S. and Hannah all received High Gold for their solo performances.
• Hannah S. and Louise received High Gold for the tap duo and 7th overall for 12-14 year olds.

Kids Artistic Revue 2009 (February 6-7)

Emma S., Michelle, Melany and Hannah S. all danced their hearts out. Emma S., Hannah S. and Michelle all received Top 1st awards (equivalent to a Gold) and Melany received an Elite Top 1st (equivalent to a Platinum). Hannah S. and Michelle received 4th and 10th, respectively, overall in the 9-11 age category.  Melany received 5th  overall in her age group. Congratulations!

Hollywood Connection 2009 (January 9-11)

Bella, Alyssa, Kelly, Tina H., Michelle , Emily, Melany , and Emma S. attended and performed at Hollywood Connection. After a slight detour to the Hyatt instead of the Marriott, it was a great weekend of classes with fantastic teachers! Emma S., Emily and Michelle danced their new solos for the very first time. All dancers lit up the stage with their performances. The following awards were given out to Dance Connection dancers:

• Emma S. won the Celebrity Award and is entitled to free tuition to ALL Hollywood Connection conventions in the 2009-2010 season.
• Emily, Melany and Michelle won the Fame awards (giving them the opportunity to audition in front of talent agents at the National convention. Emily place 5th overall in her category for her lyrical performance.
• Michelle wont the ICON Award. She was awarded this based on her technique, sportsmanship, showmanship and audition. She is eligible to compete for the Hollywood ICON of the Year at HC’s National Finals.
• Bella, Kelly and Emma received Silver awards and all Alyssa, Tina, Melany, Emily and Michelle received Gold awards.

Tremaine 2008 (Thanksgiving weekend)

Melany and Emma S. took time out of their Thanksgiving weekend to attend one of the best conventions ever, Tremaine, in San Francisco. Melany and Tina competed “Swing With Me” and received 1st place for Duo/Trio in the Teen division. Emma S. was a scholarship finalist in the Junior room. Melany received the year-long convention scholarship in the Teen room. Tina danced three dances in the faculty show.

Hollywood Vibe 2008 (November 2)

Melany M. attended Hollywood Vibe’s one-day Hip Hop Convention on Sunday, November 2, 2008. She took hip hop classes all day. Auditions were held after lunch. They narrowed the group down to five finalists and they were left to “battle” for the #1 spot. The judges announced the winner at the faculty show and Melany won! WOW!!! She won the “Crew Member Scholarship Award”, which
includes a full season scholarship to any city and Nationals and $50.00.

Tina H. – Tina is a member of the 2008-09 Tremaine National Teen Performance Company. She will be traveling to a minimum of four conventions where she is a teacher’s assistance and also performs with fellow team members throughout the country.
